All Taxis in the Borough of Kettering MUST be fitted with a Taxi Meter which charges the OFFICIAL TARIFF approved by Kettering Borough Council. Most Private Hire Vehicles also have a meter fitted, which must also use the same OFFICIAL TARIFF
When a meter is fitted, in a Taxi or a Private Hire Vehicle, the fare charged to the passenger/s MUST NOT EXCEED THE METERED PRICE
OVERCHARGING: It is ILLEGAL for any driver or company to charge more. The practice of "quoting" fixed prices which exceed the official tariff - especially for pick-up or journeys outside the main urban areas is illegal - if this happens to you please report it to the Taxi Licensing Officer at Kettering Borough Council

 An official KBC "Authorised Hackney Carriage Fare Table" - like this - MUST be displayed in ALL TAXIS in the Borough of Kettering
CAUTION: The new tariff introduced 24/12/2007 dispenses with the "old" Tariff 2 which was used for Sundays. The new tariff uses TARIFF 1 (as before) for weekday & Saturday daytime 6am - 11pm with a starting fare of £2.20. TARIFF 2 is now used for ALL nightime journeys and ALL DAY Sunday + Bank Holidays (except Christmas/New Year) and ALL journeys with more than 4 passengers with a starting fare of £3.30.
BEWARE any driver trying to use TARIFF 3 with a starting fare of £4.40 - this is ONLY allowed for Christmas & New Year. If they try to overcharge you, PLEASE report them to KBC! (Take a note of either the driver number/name or the vehcile plate number).
The "Authorised Hackney Carriage Fare Table" allows the following maximum fares to be charged by Borough of Kettering Licensed Taxis & Private Hire Vehicles fitted with a taxi meter [paraphrased into English]:
Tariff 1 (Standard "daytime" fare 6am-11pm Monday-Saturday)
Starting Fare [also called "Flag Fare"] £2.20 - for up to 5/11 a mile
Then ADD £0.20 for each extra 11th mile or part thereof. Waiting time [when the vehicle is stationary or @ less than 5mph] is added at £0.20 per 40 seconds.
EG: it costs a minimum of £2.20 to hire, a 2 mile journey will be a minimum of £2.20 to start plus 17 x 20p distance charge = £5.60 [+ any waiting]
EXTRA CHARGES
Tariff 2 (11pm to 6 am each day, Bank Holidays & Sundays - all day, More than 4 passengers for all journeys at any time - except when Tariff 3 applies)
ADD 50% to Tariff 1
EG: it costs a minimum of £3.30 to hire, a 2 mile journey will be a minimum of £3.30 to start plus 17 x 30p distance charge = £8.40 [+ any waiting]
Tariff 3 (6pm Christmas Eve to 6am on the day following Boxing Day and
6pm New Year's Eve to 6am on the day following New Year's Day)
ADD 100% to Tariff 1
EG: it costs a minimum of £4.40 to hire, a 2 mile journey will be a minimum of £4.40 to start plus 17 x 40p distance charge = £11.20 [+ any waiting]
NOTE: Only ONE of these EXTRA CHARGES can be applied at any one time
A Soiling Charge of £45.00 (Tariff 1) may be charged in addition to the above extra charges and is subject to tariff premiums
If any driver tries to charge you MORE than the above rates - please report them to the Taxi Licensing Officer at Kettering Borough Council
